DVD: Iraqi Women Speak Out

The tide is turning against the war. But the cruel criminal violence unleashed on Iraq by the U.S. invasion and occupation is far from ended. Politicians of both parties scramble for an exit strategy that will leave tens of thousands of troops there, despite the fact that every poll shows Iraqis blame the occupation for the outbreak of sectarian violence. The U.S. peace movement has struggled intensely to have its voices heard for over 4 years. But voices of the Iraqi people themselves have been almost completely silenced by the commercial media. We need to change that - precisely in order to force an end to this horrible catastrophe.

In the Spring of 2006 six Iraqi women crisscrossed the US at the invitation of Code Pink. They spoke about their experiences under occupation. They traveled to dozens of cities, speaking with community groups, churches, veterans and families of active duty GIs. (Read short bios of them below)Deep Dish TV in collaboration with Code Pink has produced an emotionally charged DVD that features these amazing women speaking directly from their hearts to the people of the U.S., pleading for us to force an end to the occupation and bring all troops home immediately. We would like to partner with your organization to get the DVD seen by as many people as possible. It is a powerful organizing tool. You can view part of the documentary free on the Internet at: http://www.blip.tv/file/125757/

We are offering a 60% discount from the $20 cost of the DVD. The proceeds will help support your anti-war efforts and will enable us to continue publishing and promoting the DVD.For individual copy: www.deepdishtv.org For multiple copies at $8 each:Email: deepdish@igc.org Call: 212 473 8933 Write Deep Dish TV 339 Lafayette Street NY, NY 10012 The Iraqi Women Who are they? What's happened to them?

Upon returning to Iraq, Dr. Entisar Mohammad Ariabi, a senior pharmacist at Baghdad's Yarmook Hospital, was fired from her job. Her brother was brutally murdered and she was put on a death list. She was forced into hiding with her 5 daughters and her house was demolished. She then had to flee to Europe where she is now living in exile under very poor conditions. Eman Ahmad Khamas, a journalist, was also put on a death list and forced into exile.Faiza Al-Araji, an engineer, was forced into exile in Jordan after her son was "arrested" (kidnapped) from the University. Faiza's blog is: http://afamilyinbaghdad.blogspot.com/ Nadje Al-Ali, a writer and researcher specializing in women in the Middle East is teaching in England. Dr. Sureya Sayadi, a doctor and social activist (and a Kurd) continues her work of speaking out to the American people. Dr. Rashad Zidan, also a pharmacist, has been forced to close her pharmacy, but continues to organize efforts in Baghdad to support the vastly growing number of widows and orphans. I know that all of you have opposed this unspeakable war and struggle to end it. But we need to do more. We need to reach out to others and bring them into action. And a very effective way to motivate others and ourselves is to see and hear the voices of these courageous and inspiring women.

After 4 years of this war and as Iraq descends into further horror and chaos, it is crucial that these important voices of the Iraqi people be heard. Again, you can get a copy of the DVD "Iraqi Women Speak Out" at http://www.deepdishtv.org. Purchase at least one copy and commit to showing it to several friends. Your purchase will also enable us to duplicate more copies and amplify their voices even louder. And please forward this email to your contacts.
