Text of Our Election Poster: Don’t Vote for War!

January 2003

The Coalition of Women for Peace did election outreach based on the common values of peace, social justice, and economic equity that harken back to the agrarian and egalitarian vision of Israel's founders. By choosing the image of the halutzot [Israeli pioneer women], we sought to appeal to and empower women. By including text in Hebrew and Arabic, we emphasized our desire for co-existence and friendship. This poster could be seen on billboards throughout the urban centers of Israel prior to the recent Israeli elections.

Here's what the text says:
The large header: Don't vote war!
On the right: No to violence
On the left: It's in our hands
Under the picture: Your vote plants the seed of peace
And the tag line on the bottom:

On behalf of a state based on human rights, economic and social justice, and employment and a fair salary for
everyone. From a distinguished professor of film studies: “I've just returned to the US from a short visit to Israel and want to congratulate you on this terrific poster. My son spotted it and alerted me to it, and our heart skipped a beat every time we came across yet another one on this or that kiosk. We know that posters are just a tiny boost in a greater effort, but this strikes us as an effective, moving, and intelligent boost.” Linda Dittmar (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
