Bringing
Peace to Homes in Peru
Canadian Food for the Hungry International
(FHI)
Domestic violence is a tragic part of every culture yet in the slums
of Lima, Peru almost all women and children can expect to be abused.
Most abuse occurs in the home and is usually at the hand of a husband,
father, stepfather, uncle or other partner. Six out of every 10
pregnancies of young girls between the ages of 11 and 14 can be
attributed to incest or rape. Food for the Hungry International
has seen the effect of violence in the home and is deeply committed
to the welfare of the entire family. FHI will provide training,
visitation and counsel to help, including legal counsel. This program
is unique in that it is primarily designed to have Canadian women
reaching out past their own communities and assisting women in Peru
to fulfill their God given talents and abilities in raising their
children and providing for the well being of their families. The
total project commitment for 2004 is $24,360, and the total need
for the project (as of Aug 1) stands at $20,849. To make a donation
