a global directory of gender,
peace and security research institutions
The Gender, Peace and Security area
of the United Nations International Research and Training Institute
for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) is currently developing a
global directory of gender, peace and security research institutions.
This searchable directory is geared towards researchers, practitioners
and potential students to provide up-to-date information on gender,
peace and security research institutions in order to facilitate
networking, the exchange of materials and ideas, and encourage students
to pursue studies in this area. The directory is in the final stages
of development and will in short be available on INSTRAW’s
website.
The directory will include institutions from around the world that
conduct significant amounts of research on gender, peace and security
issues such as universities and colleges, research institutions,
NGOs, and UN institutions. Violence against women is one of the
central topics. In addition, areas of research include women/gender
combined with various peace and security issues: armed conflict,
conflict resolution, international security, public security, political
participation, refugees and internally displaced persons, peacekeeping,
peacebuilding, human rights, international humanitarian law, security
forces (military, police, etc.), peace processes, disarmament (nbc
and small arms), justice and penal system and reconstruction and
reconciliation.
We would like to encourage organizations, institutes and universities,
especially within Africa, that conduct research within this field
to send us information about their organization in order to be included
in the global directory.
