I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor H. Con. Res. 290 that expresses the sense of the Congress that women throughout the world should join together for a week of events to speak up for world peace. Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX30) introduced this legislation on December 28, 200l, and it has been reported out of the House Committee on International Relations.

The role of women is fundamental as we strive toward the achievement of global equality and peace. However, while the initiative focuses on women and peace, this cannot be the work of one gender, group or political party. The commitment must come from all who are dedicated to helping create a better world, one worthy of this nation’s legacy of democracy.
