Political Advocacy in Croatia
In 1999 women in Croatia organized to monitor and influence the elections for the House of Representatives of the Croatian Parliament taking place that year. To do this they formed the Women's Ad Hoc Coalition for Monitoring and Influencing Elections. Their strategy includes: highlighting women's concerns and gender perspectives throughout elections, encouraging women to exercise their rights to political particiption, and influencing post-election policy and decision making. Participation in the Coalition is open to women's groups that have as fundamental principles the ideas of anti-militarism, anti-war, and anti-nationalism.

Their activities include: 1) lobbying to incorporate amendments into an electoral law, 2) monitoring programs and public presentations of political parties, 3) organizing open forums for women voters as well as round tables for women political candidates, 4) street actions, and finally, 5) producing informative leaflets, posters, and video materials concerning the Coalition Election Platform. The Coalition does not support or advocate for any particular political party or candidate.
