The Republic of Chad is Africa's fifth-largest nation. The population is estimated at 11.2 million (UN, 2009) with an area of 1.28 million sq km (495,800 sq miles). The capital is N'Djamena. The major languages are French and Arabic.

Chad's post-independence history has been marked by instability and violence resulting from tension between the mainly Arab-Muslim north and the predominantly Christian and animist south.

  • Chad does not have a National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325)

  • Chad was a UN peacekeeping mandated country under the mission: United Nations Mission in the African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT) from September 2007 - December 2010

He forfeited valuable income for his large family. But he felt it was essential to take part in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence and support women in the camp in eastern Chad.
