The twin resolutions on Sustaining Peace highlight the important role of women in peacebuilding and the “substantial link between women’s full and meaningful involvement in efforts to prevent, resolve and rebuild from conflict and those efforts’ effectiveness and long term sustainability”. In 2016 the UN Peacebuilding Commission adopted for the first time a gender strategy which is now being implemented.
