Overview

Georgia developed a NAP for the implementation of UN Security Council’s Resolutions №1325, 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960 for the time frame of 2012-2015.

The Georgian NAP forms part of broader national efforts to mainstream Gender, and was developed following the adoption of the Law on Gender Equality in 2010, and establishment of the Council for Gender Equality.

A Governmental Working Group lead by the Council for Gender Equality, and comprised of government officials, Civil Society and international organizations coordinated the NAP’s development.

Georgia has a recent experience of conflict and is also a contributor to international peacekeeping operations. As such, the Georgian NAP has a focus on conflict affected areas, internally displaced persons and occupied territories within Georgia; and also in mainstreaming Women Peace and Security in its international peacekeeping and diplomatic activities.

The National Action Plan is built on four pillars: increasing the participation of women in the peace process and the security sector; preventing all forms of violence against women, especially those related to sex or gender; protecting women against all kinds of threats, and safeguarding their physical, mental and economical security; and addressing the specific needs of women during and after conflict periods.
