Angola: Women Called to Participate in Legislative Elections

January 18, 2008 – (AllAfrica) The secretary general of Angola's ruling MPLA party' Women Wing (OMA), Luzia Inglês Van-Dúnem "Inga", Friday in Luanda, appealed to women to actively participate in the training for leadership and win trust to vote.

While talking to members of the organisation, during the ceremony of new year compliments, the official said that the achievement of decision making posts requires the strengthening of mechanisms of information and training.

She pledged OMA's continued effort to promote education, especially in rural areas, thus contributing for a conscious participation in elections.

For 2008, besides the electoral programme, the organisation has set as priority the creation of mechanisms to provide women with bank credits, fight poverty, gender violence, HIV/AIDS, encouraging the increase of basic health care.

Luzia Inglês appealed to Angolans to engage in the fight to strengthen the consolidation of national unity, through the culture of peace, democracy, tolerance and respect for human rights.
