Angola: Ladies Speak of Their Importance in Elections

March 6, 2008 – (AllAfrica) Women's role in the electoral process and importance of voting was the theme of a talk held Wednesday here, in an initiative of the provincial department of Family and Promotion of Women, under the "March Woman" journey.

Addressing the theme, the co-ordinator of the provincial executive commission for the electoral registration process, Agostinho Lima, reminded that voting is a civic obligation, which all citizens have to exercise, regardless of their sex.

At the meeting, Agostino Lima, highlighted the necessity and usefulness of women's vote. He underlined the weight of women's vote in the electoral process, in the political, economic and social stability of the countries that have a democratic system, such as Angola, emphasising the fact that women in this country represent over fifty percent of the electorate.

On the other hand, he called on citizens who have not registered to vote to do it between April and May, the period of updating of the process countrywide.

Meanwhile, the provincial head of the department of Family and Promotion of Women, Genovena Lino, highlighted the relevant role of women in the electoral process, as they are the generators of life and managers of the family.
