CITIZEN WINS UNHCR REFUGEE WOMEN
PROMOTING PRIZE
December 17, 2003 (Angola Press Agency -
Luanda) Angolan Teresa Musole was honoured this December with the
2003 UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) prize for promotion
of gender equity and training of women refugee.
Teresa Musole, representing of the Ministry of Family and Women
Promotion Affairs in the Lumbala Nguimbo district, eastern Moxico
province, got the prize for her deeds towards improving living conditions
of youths and women, including on sexual exploitation matters.A
note from the UNHCR released to Angop indicates that the winner
has had a relevant engagement in the construction of Lumbala Nguimbo
Community Development Centre, among others.
The Centre that is a joint undertaking by the Government of Angola
and UNHCR, will assist women and their families in obtaining self
sufficient conditions, through learning skills in literacy, nursery
educational activities.
It will help women engaged in agriculture, fashion and fabrics and
in honey production projects, including facilitating access to bank
loans.
In announcing the giving of the prize for gender equity, the UNHCR
representative, Ruud Lubbers, stressed the importance of fighting
violence against women.
