UN AGENCIES MARK WORLD DAY AGAINST
VIOLENCE ON WOMEN
November 25, 2003 (Angola Press Agency -
Luanda) UN agencies to Angola, Non-Governmental Organisations and
the community of refugees and displaced persons are holding today
a ceremony to mark the World Day for Elimination of Violence Against
Women, November 25.
The official ceremony is taking place at the refugees camp of Viana,
near Luanda, with three panels, namely on domestic violence, reproductive
health and the right to education.
During the event, the community is presenting theatre plays and
music sessions depicting their life in the rural area, as well as
a discussion of the main difficulties facing their members.
The High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Angola has been cooperating
with the Ministry of Family and Women Affairs (MINFAMU) in running
courses and granting micro-credits, Especially in the provinces
of Moxico and Zaire, where there is a high number of refugees.
November 25 was in 1999 declared by the UN General Assembly as the
World Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.
