Women Propose National Consensus Agenda for Gender Issues

October 21, 2006 - (Angola Press Agency) The participants at the International Conference on Woman Participation in Political Life on Thursday in Luanda defended the creation of a national consensus agenda for issues of gender balance and women promotion.

The fact was released by the programmes officer of the United Nations Human Rights Offices, Eneida Martins, while speaking in a press conference that marked the closing act of the referred forum. This document, according to Eneida Martins, will bring to the public every problem that affects woman and to sensitise and make the society aware of the need for a full participation of women in political and public life.

"The participation of woman is a condition for development. It is a matter of human rights. There is no progress with the exclusion of a social group", she underlined during the press conference. The UN official also defended for the need of devising a follow-up mechanism of international and regional tools that protect the full participation of woman in political, social and economic spheres.
