FAMILY MINISTER SPEAKS ON RURAL WOMEN

October 15, 2003 – (Angola Press Agency - Luanda) Angola's Minister of Family and Women Promotion Candida Celeste, on Wednesday here said that women situation in the rural areas is still difficult although the peaceful climate in the country.

Ms Candida Celeste, who was speaking at an act to commemorate world rural women's day, being marked today, called on the attention of the society towards the important role that this stratum of the population can play for a country and community development.

The Minister pointed out the transportation of the agricultural products from the community and the poor incentives towards the increasing of productivity as factors which contribute to the difficulties of the rural women.

Poverty, lack of schools, medical aid and medicines, high levels of maternal and child death rates were also indicated as the main hardships facing these women.

Meanwhile, Minister Candida Celeste manifested hopeful on the country future, saying that the peace and the Government's strategies in the fight against poverty are some elements that will help to overcome the rural women's current situation.

The Minister left this morning bound for South-eastern Kuando Kubango province, where the festivities to celebrate the Rural Women and the Food's Days, respectively in October 15 and 16, will be held.
