Greater Female
Integration in Politics Defended
September 16, 2004 - (Angola Press
Agency - Luanda) The co-ordinator of gender policy of the Family
and Woman Promotion Ministry, Genoveva Policarpo, has defended on
Thursday in Luanda, a greater integration of female participation
in politics and decision-making as a "factor that should be
considered in the basis of justice and human rights".
Mrs Policarpo was speaking during a talk under the theme "Empowering
Women: Challenges to Political Parties", promoted by German
non-governmental organisation, Friedrich Eberg Stiftung, held at
the Auditorium of Angola's privately-run Catholic University (UCAN).
To her, the adhesion of women in political parties should be active
and participative in its acting and pronouncement, as this is the
only way that they can conquer the power, and contesting with men,
equally.
On her opinion, the expression "Empowering Women", is
a synonym of teaching, training, instructing and capacitating women,
aiming at endowing them with skill of leadership and management.
Among those attending the event were representatives of political
parties' female organisations, civic associations for the defence
of woman's rights, officials of the Ministry of Family and Women
Promotion, religious entities and various guests.
