Country Elected to Lead Female Jurists Organisation

September 11, 2006 - (Angola Press Agency) Angola has been elected to the Presidency of the General Assembly of the International Federation of Women of Juridical Career (FIMCJ), during the organisation's 19th congress held on September 06-10, in Barcelona, Spain.

The jurist Carolina Cerqueira will be chairwoman of the organisation for the coming three years of mandate, whereas the Portuguese Teresa Celia Faria will lead the general secretariat. Speaking to Angop, Carolina Cerqueira added that the meeting debated issues related to women equality in the social, political and legal domains, the ways and strategies to eradicate gender inequality, women and access to property, health, education, among others.

Satisfied with this election, the source assured that it is also due to political and military stability that the country is experiencing, following the achievement of peace since 04 April 2002, and the signing of the memorandum of Understanding , on 01 August 2006, for Peace in the northern Cabinda Province. Portugal is to host in 2007, the 20th conference of this institution.
