Huila - Campaign Against Domestic Violence Launched

September 6, 2006 - (Angola Press Agency) A campaign against violence in the family was launched on Tuesday, in Lubango, southern Huila Province, by the Family and Women Promotion Provincial Board, aimed at eradicating or reducing cases of domestic violence, which are increasing in the province.

In an interview to ANGOP, Family and Women Promotion Provincial Board director, Maria Amélia Metódio, said that for the effect 40 brigades have been set up to work in sensitisation and awareness campaigns in various parts of Lubango city, with emphasis on areas of high population density.

The campaign aims also at learning from the population reasons that lead couples, families and other members of the society to conflicts that generate violence, as well as sending a message that problems are not solved through physical, cultural and moral violence, but through dialogue that can bring peace, harmony and tranquillity.

In the last eight months, the Family and Women Promotion Provincial Board registered 500 case of gender violence, against 380 in the year 2005.
