BENGUELA: SEMINAR ON ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE

December 2, 2002 – (Angola Press Agency - Luanda) The provincial directorate of family and women promotion is developing since the end of November, in the cities of Benguela and Lobito, a number of awareness seminars on gender violence in urban and suburban communities.

In partnership with the Angolan Woman Organization (OMA) and the Ministry of Justice, the seminars happen under a 16-day programme against gender violence, which is taking place in the countrywide.

Fernanda Inglês, the local Municipal officer in charge of family and women promotion told Angop that in the last months, the sector as registered various cases of violence in the household, negatively influencing the harmonious development of childrens, who are more affected.

Without revealing the numbers, stated that there as many cases of children abandoned by their mothers, as result of family disagreement, mainly when the father has no money to feed their kids.
