WOMEN LEARN CONFLICT RESOLUTION TECHNIQUES

September 24, 2002 – (Angola Press Agency - Luanda) Angolan women politicians, deputies and social organisations representatives started Monday a seminar on conflict resolution basic techniques being run by Angolan Women Network.

The seminar lasting until Wednesday will tackle such topics like "conflict identification", "role of dialogue", "communication in conflict management", "techniques of good or bad hearing" and "what negotiation is all about, how to hold them it and required means".

The Common Ground project coordinator, Clarisse Caputu, facilitating the programme will tackle conflict in its generality, with no stress on the armed one Angolan people is familiar to when the matter is talked about.

She said people deal with conflicts on a daily basis, mainly when they are found in a position of leadership as they have to interact with many people and the mastery of the techniques, skills and basic knowledge for their resolution.

The ongoing seminar follows another two run earlier this month by the women network.

They were those on leadership (September 11 to 13) and advocacy (18 to 20), all covered with funds from the Us Non-governmental organisation Wini Rock International.

Meanwhile, speaking on the relationship between the initiatives, the red network secretary general, Emilia Fernandes, said the topics being taught are of such relevance to women and have the purpose to facilitate the emergence till 2005 of strong and active female organisations as recommended by the Beijing conference.

She also highlighted the need for women to undertake a good leadership and a campaign of advocacy capable of influencing the Government into creating programmes helping reduce maternal and infant death rates.
