Exhibition on Violence Against Women in Sarajevo

August 14, 2007 - (OneWorld) The photographic exhibition that demonstrates, in a dramatic fashion, the wide spread nature of violence against women will open in Sarajevo, under the auspices of the campaign against this basic human right.

The exhibition, organized by the Council of Europe and the Swiss Embassy in B&H will first open at the “New Temple” (Novi hram) gallery on August 15, and then at the Main Post Office in Sarajevo, on August 31, before it moves to other post offices in the country.

The exhibition is organized to celebrate the fact that Sarajevo Film Festival won the human rights award. It is a part of the CoE campaign “Stop Violence against Women”, started in November 2006. The campaign will continue until mid 2008. This topic is a priority of the human rights policies of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The campaign aims to suppress and eradicate violence against women by stimulating the CoE member states to list domestic and family violence at criminal offences and improve services that provide support and protection to women.

The campaign is public and includes a number of events, exhibitions and TV clips that emphasize the wide spread presence of violence against women in Europe.
