and the 2007 Elections in Kosovo
November 14, 2007 – (OneWorld) Kosovo is on the brink
of a new era. Kosovo’s upcoming elections on November 17th
give us a chance to prove to ourselves, to women and men from our
international coalitions for peace and justice and to the entire
international community, our readiness to build a just and sustainable
peace and inclusive democracy.

GEM Seminar, Sarajevo
November 11, 2007 – (OneWorld) Sarajevo hosted the
first regional meeting of the Regional GEM (Gender Evaluation Methodology)
Seminar, October 19-21, organized by the Foundation OneWorld platform
for Southeast Europe.

Reasons
September 21, 2007 - (OneWorld) On the occasion of September
21, the International Day of Peace, the Journalists for Women and
Children Rights and Environmental Protection nongovernmental organization,
in cooperation with the French Caritas, launch the “1325 Reasons
Why!” campaign. The campaign aims to pressure the Parliament
of Macedonia to ratify the UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and
Security.

and herzegovina: Fundamentalism Today – Democratic and Feminist
Responses
September 18, 2007 - (OneWorld) Provoked by the threat of
strengthened ultra-right movements and use of religion to spread
anti-democratic and anti-women policies in the world, the Woman
and Society Centre Sarajevo and Women in Black Belgrade cooperate
on a project designed to articulate strategies of resistance to
fundamentalism as biggest threat to democracy, human rights and
in particular women rights today.

on Violence Against Women in Sarajevo
August 14, 2007 - (OneWorld) The photographic exhibition
that demonstrates, in a dramatic fashion, the wide spread nature
of violence against women will open in Sarajevo, under the auspices
of the campaign against this basic human right.
Advocates Launch Campaign to Protect Women Human Rights Defenders
in Serbia
June 21, 2007 – (OneWorld) Advocates in Serbia
have launched a major campaign to pressure the Serbian government
and international community to better protect Serbian women who
defend human rights.

June 20, 2007 – (WLUML) Male and female activists from
throughout Serbia participated in the Women in Black “Women,
Peace, and Activism’ seminar held May 18-20, 2007 in Totovo
Selo in Vojvodina. (WiB - Belgrade)
Macedonia:
Gender Relations and Gender Analysis Techniques
June 7 2007 – (OneWorld) Akcija Zdruzenska civic
association, under the auspices of its activities for integration
of gender equality issues in local communities’ policies and
development plans, organized four three-day training programmes
on the topic of Gender Relations and Gender Analysis Techniques.
The trainings were organized from March to May of this year.

Demand UN Meeting and a Say in Kosovo's Future

and Washington, DC: In a powerful show of coordinated advocacy,
17 leading members of women’s civil society from six Balkan
countries and Kosovo have asked for an urgent meeting with the UN
Security Council, and repeated their demand that women must participate
directly in talks on the future of Kosovo.
War
crimes tribunal sentences Serb
April 5, 2007 - (Reuters) THE HAGUE: The U.N.
war crimes tribunal on Wednesday sentenced former Bosnian Serb police
officer Dragan Zelenovic to 15 years in prison after he pleaded
guilty to the rape and torture of Muslims during Bosnia-Herzegovina's
1992-95 war.

March 29, 2007 - (OneWorld) The Vojvodina Executive Council
(the provincial government) adopted the Draft Law on Gender Equality,
proposed by the Provincial Secretariat of Labour, Employment and
Gender Equality.

armed men opened fire at a group of women picking garlic in a forest
in Chechnya on Saturday, killing one and injuring two others, officials
in the province said.

March 20 2007 – (OneWorld) The Akcija Zdruzenska civic
association from Skopje, in cooperation with Veles based women activists,
organized a forum in Veles, March 15, 2007, to discuss the topic
of Gender Equality Policies and Practices in Veles Municipality.

Even at the venerable age of 54, Sangimoh Safarova doesn't shy away
from hard physical labor. Hoe in hand, this spry woman eagerly scrapes
eastern Tajikistan's rocky soil to dig up the last of her bumper
potato crop. Scraping by aptly describes how most residents survive
in this steep, rocky valley. Surrounded by some of the world's most
rugged topography, Tavildara is cut off from the rest of the country
both by purplish mountains and by political tensions that linger
from Tajikistan's 1992-1997 civil war.
