Women and the Politics of Peace: Declaration
September 18, 2005 – (Socialist International Women) For over 31 years Cyprus, a member state of the European Union, has been a divided country notwithstanding developments in the political process. Negotiations have been carried out with the aim of solving the Cyprus Problem and so far some bilateral agreements have been reached between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots.

TURKISH CYPRIOT AND GREEK CYPRIOT WOMEN “IMAGINING A POST-SOLUTION CYPRUS: THE GENDER PERSPECTIVE…”

March 24, 2004 – (Cyprus Alternative News – Cyprus) Hands Across the Divide calling on negotiators for "gender perspective" "All the inhabitants of Cyprus want a solution NOW but to be viable the solution needs to take into consideration respect of the human rights of all of all and a balance of both the rights of the two communities and the sexes.

CYPRIOT WOMEN MARCH FOR PEACE

March 11, 2004 – (HandAcrosstheDivide – Cyprus) AROUND 120 Cypriot women from both sides of the divide yesterday marked International Women’s Day and reaffirmed their desire to continue to work for the reunification of the island.

CYPRIOT WOMEN PETITION FOR PEACE
March 11, 2004 - (CNA – Nicosia) Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot women marched yesterday evening in a symbolic move to demand peace and a political settlement that would reunite Cyprus.

November 26, 2003 – (BBC) Amnesty International has described violence against women as today's "most pervasive human rights challenge".

SUPPORT FROM BRITISH MPS TO THE TURKISH CYPRIOT AND GREEK CYPRIOT WOMEN
July 16, 2003 – (Cyprus Alternative News) British MP Valerie Davey gave an “Early Day Motion” to the British House of Parliament together with the signatures of other British MPs, to give their support to Hands Across the Divide, who were demonstrating last week in the divided capital of Nicosia, on the “Green Line” at the Ledra Palace checkpoint for “an urgent solution”. The proposal decision opened for signature on July 23, 2003 was signed by 23 British MPs.

“CINDERELLA DEMONSTRATION” FROM THE TURKISH AND THE GREEK CYPRIOT WOMEN
July 9, 2003 – (Ortam) Hands Across the Divide, the first joint women’s NGO with members from both Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities is demonstrating together to say “no to passports in crossing the line, no Cinderella time, no restriction and limits to friendships! Yes to an urgent solution!” on the 9th of July in Nicosia, at the Ledra palace checkpoint from 19.00 to 24.00 hours.

CELEBRATION OF WOMAN’S DAY IN THE OCCUPATIONAL TERRITORY
March 7, 2003 – (Simerini) At a time when Denktash and Ankara turn their back to settlement and peace, the Turkish Cypriot women who work in education address a message of peace to their Greek Cypriot colleagues. They have invited them to the occupied territory tomorrow Saturday, to celebrate together Woman’s Day, voicing their desire for the reunification of their homeland, Cyprus. The eight women, who represent the teacher unions OELMEK, OLTEK and POED, will go to the occupied Nicosia, where they are to visit the teacher union offices and later, they are to have lunch at Kerynia. The occupational regime authorised the necessary permission just yesterday afternoon.

March 7, 2003 – (International Federation of Journalists) Humanity, peace and reconciliation are keys to settlement of the Cyprus crisis and women have a crucial role to play in bridging the gulf that divides the community said two of the island's leading women journalists in Brussels today at a celebration for International Women's Day.

April 16, 2002 (Cyprus News Agency) -- Cyprus women demonstrated here tonight against the Israeli invasion of Palestinian territories, expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their leader Yasser Arafat.

HANDS ACROSS THE DIVIDE: WOMEN'S GROUP MAKES CYPRIOT HISTORY
March 20, 2002 - A group of Turkish and Greek Cypriot women, Hands Across The Divide, who attended a bicommunal workshop in London last week have made Cypriot history by becoming the first internationally recognized women's NGO (non-governmental organisation).

March 13, 1998 – (Christian Science Monitor article in The Hamilton Spectator) The Greek Cypriot women gather at the Ledra checkpoint every weekend, wearing black and protesting against the loss of their loved ones. Faded photos of missing husbands, sons, and fathers hang from their necks.

PITCH FOR UNIFIED CYPRUS GAINS LEADERS' ATTENTION
October 22, 1993 – (Toronto Star) Tens of thousands of Greek Cypriot women lined an 80-kilometre (50-mile) stretch of highway yesterday in a riveting call for a unified Cyprus.

WOMEN SAY TURK GUARDS BEAT THEM
July 24, 1989 - (AP article in The Toronto Star) Six Greek Cypriot women alleged yesterday they were sexually assaulted and beaten by Turkish-Cypriot prison guards and police after being arrested for taking part in a protest last week.

CYPRUS WOMEN END PROTEST AGAINST TURKS
July 21, 1989 - (AP-CP article in The Toronto Star) About 1,000 Greek Cypriot women declared victory yesterday and left a stretch of the island's ethnic dividing line after two days of protesting in which five Canadian U.N. peacekeepers were slightly injured.

54 ARRESTED AS 3,000 WOMEN PROTEST DIVISION OF CYPRUS
March 20, 1989 – (Reuters’ article in The Toronto Star) About 3,000 Greek-Cypriot women stormed past troops into North Cyprus yesterday to protest the division of the island. Some were dragged kicking and screaming into Turkish-Cypriot custody.

GREEK CYPRIOT WOMEN PREPARE TO MARCH INTO TURKISH TERRITORY
March 19, 1989 - (Reuters’ article in The Toronto Star) Hundreds of Greek Cypriot women planned to evade mine fields and U.N. peacekeepers today in a bid to cross the Green Line dividing their island.
