CYPRUS WOMEN CALL FOR TERMINATION
OF MIDEAST HOSTILITIES
April 16, 2002 (Cyprus News Agency) -- Cyprus women
demonstrated here tonight against the Israeli invasion of Palestinian
territories, expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people
and their leader Yasser Arafat.
Dozens of women gathered in the streets around the premises of the
Israeli Embassy in Nicosia, while every access to the building was
blocked by barricades. Women holding candles unanimously approved
a petition calling on the Israeli government to immediately withdraw
its troops for the Palestinian territories and terminate the siege
of Arafat.
A women's delegation failed to hand over the petition to the Embassy
and was told that no one was there to receive it.
They left the petition on a barricade.
