15 Women
Candidates to Vie for HPs, State Council Seats

July 1, 2005 – (The Ethiopian Herald) The
National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced that 15 women
party and independent candidates will contest in the upcoming (August)
elections in the Somali State.
The Board office told ENA yesterday that 13 will vie for seats in
the House of Peoples' Representatives (HPR) and two for State Council.
The Somali People Democratic Party (SPDP) has fielded five women
candidates for the 23 seats in the HPR.
The NEBE said that the Dilwabi Peoples Democratic Movement (DPDM)
has fielded two women candidates and the Coalition for Unity and
Democracy (CUD) one candidate.
Two and one candidate fielded by DPDM and CUD respectively would
contest Constituency in Jijiga Zone.
One candidate fielded by SPDP and two independent candidates would
compete in Awubare Constituency in Jijiga Zone.
Two independent candidates would contest in Alkere and Warder constituencies
in Afder and Warder zones respectively.
Two independents and one SPDP candidate would contest in Kelafo
Constituency in Gode Zone.
Two candidates fielded by SPDP would contest in Kebri Beyah.
Some 609 candidates have registered for the elections to be held
in the State in August 2005.
