WOMEN ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE TO DEVELOPMENT

November 11, 2003 – (Accra Mail - Accra) Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, at the weekend urged women organizations to explain national polices and topical issues to their members, so that they could contribute meaningfully to nation building.

She noted that the role of women in national reconstruction was indispensable, and said government was therefore, committed to eliminating barriers that impeded their progress.

Madam Horner-Sam was speaking at the 26th Regional Conference of the Ghacoe Women Ministry in Takoradi, under the theme: "Conforming to the Image of Jesus."

Madam Horner-Sam requested women groups to support the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs "to raise the consciousness of women and bring them to the realization of their responsibility in shaping human destiny."

She requested women to work in partnership with other institutions that were dedicated to their welfare towards the emancipation and progress of women.

Madam Gifty Quansah, Regional President of the Ministry, announced that the organization had launched a vocational training programme for street children. She said forty teenagers had already acquired various skills through the initiative but needed government's assistance to enable them to establish their own business.

The Reverend Atta Boateng, Head Pastor of the Finger of God Ministry, urged Christians to refrain from acrimony, animosity, gossiping, backbiting and deception that were dividing the country.

He called on them to ensure justice and harmony by emulating the examples of Jesus Christ who served with love, peace compassion and humility.
