Funding for women heads of households should be increased in next national budget

October 19, 2004 – (Tehran Times) President Mohammad Khatami on Monday called for an increase in funding for women heads of households and unattended children in next year’s national budget.

In a meeting with the members of the Majlis women’s Caucus, Khatami praised their efforts in pursuing women’s issues.

Social justice is the most important objective of the Islamic Revolution and Islamic society, so serious efforts should be made to realize the lofty goal, he observed.

Khatami lauded the efforts of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee and other relief organizations in providing assistance to needy people.

He also called for the creation of job opportunities for women heads of households and asked officials to take responsibility for looking after and helping underprivileged groups.

Prior to Khatami's speech, Nafiseh Fayazbakhsh, the chairperson of the Majlis women’s Caucus, urged the government to try to solve the problems of unattended children and women heads of households.
