MILITANTS BEHEAD WOMAN
IN KASHMIR
August 28, 2004 - (IANS) Terrorists abducted and brutally killed
a young woman by chopping off her head in Jammu and Kashmir, police
here said Saturday.
Shehnaz Akhtar, 28, was kidnapped
from her home in Sanjor village in Poonch district, 230 km north
of Jammu, late Friday night. Her decapitated body was found in
nearby forests Saturday morning.
She was the 55th woman to be killed by terrorists in Kashmir this
year.
Terrorists forcibly took Shehnaz away from her home in the presence
of her husband Pervez Khan, who was beaten with rifle butts when
he tried to resist, police said.
The motive for the murder was not immediately known and no group
has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Police said the murder of Shehnaz was the handiwork of separatist
guerrillas who had embarked on a campaign to terrorise women in
the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
