OSCE HOSTS CONFERENCE IN KOSOVO ON WOMEN IN POST-CONFLICT SOCIETIES

May 28, 2002 – (OSCE) Women's role in conflict prevention, resolution and post-conflict dialogue will be the theme of a conference hosted by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo today. Women NGO activists and politicians representing the various communities of Kosovo have been invited to discuss the issue and to present their conclusions to representatives of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government and to international decision makers.

This conference marks the conclusion of a four-day visit to Kosovo of a delegation of women from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Slovenia, led by the Co-ordinator of the Stability Pact Gender Task Force, Ms. Sonja Loktar, who have come to meet NGO activists and politicians.

During these meetings, which were held in Gracanica/Graçanicë, Prizren and Pri_tina/Pristina, the delegation had the opportunity to debate with local groups about the involvement of women in peace building and reconciliation and share with them the experiences of women facing similar problems in neighbouring areas.

The event, organized by the OSCE, the Kosovo Civil Society Foundation, and the Stability Pact Gender Task Force, is part of a broader regional project of the Stability Pact, founded by the Swiss and Danish Government and implemented in FYROM, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia proper.

Media representatives are invited to a press conference with Ms. Sonja Lokar and other representatives on Tuesday, 28 May at 14:30 in the 3rd Floor Conference Room of the OSCE Headquarters, Pri_tina/Pristina.
