Women Vow to Take Liberia's Leadership
By D. Moses Wantu
August 2, 2005 (The Analyst) "The
advocacy for women of Liberia to play active political role in the
country national leadership has been alluded to men failure to administer
effective government in the past" these are the exact words
of Harper City Mayor Reginal Sampson.
She said the time has come for women to take the lead in improving
those things their male counter part has failed to improve upon.
The Harper City Mayor made the assertion recently during a peace
sensitization as voter education workshop organized by the Liberian
Women Mass Action for Peace.
She noted that peace building initiatives in Liberia now were crucial,
as Liberia was in the state of transit for genuine peace.
Madam Sampson stressed that the role of the Women In Peace Building
Network (WIPNET) under whose auspices the workshop was held exemplified
women's determination to take the nation out of war. Speaking further
the Harper City Mayor maintained that women this time will not sit
in the back to see men administer state affairs, noting that they
too can make it and much better than men.
She used the occasion to challenge her colleagues to positively
challenge their male counterparts because the transformation is
the statutory obligation of every Liberian especially those women
and men who are competent.
Madam Sampson admonished her male counterparts that they should
see them as partners in the business of politics and not enemies.
