January 20, 2005 - (The Analyst - Monrovia) The Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Abraham Korvah, has disclosed that Liberian women in Diaspora, notably Canada, USA and UK, are to benefit from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) program.

Mr. Korvah made the disclosure to journalists on Monday following his return home from Switzerland, where he represented the Liberian government at an IOM conference.

He said the conference lasted for two days but that it was "very rewarding". The topic for the conference was "International Agenda for the Migration Management"; it is to assist government policy makers and migration practitioners in building capacity to develop effective national migration policy, legislative and appropriate administrative structures as well as effective inter-state cooperation on migration management. while respecting their sovereignty in this field.

He also met with Dr. Walter Fust, Director for the Swiss Agency for International Development and Cooperation who served as a keynote speaker at the conference, and had discussions on how to establish capacity building development and a need for both countries to revisit the already existing agreement.

Meanwhile, Korvah has confirmed plans that the IOM Deputy Director General, Mrs. Ndioro Ndiaye, is assisting Liberian women acquire training or useful experience in sectors defined as priority by the joint needs assessment and particularly, good governance and rule of law, civil society and media, health and nutrition, education, community water and sanitation, human rights protection and gender, post-conflict reconciliation and reconstruction and HIV/AIDS, etc.
