NEW NGO ESTABLISHED

May 20, 2005 – (The Analyst) A new non-governmental organization (NGO) expected to cater to women, children and war-affected females has been formed.

The organization named "The Organization of Refined Inhabitants of Liberia (TORIL), according to its Article of Incorporation, has as one of its general purposes and objectives "catering to the health and economic needs of the elderly."

Other purposes for which is it formed include catering to the health and education as well as economic needs of the disadvantaged children of Liberia, empowering the young people get involved in small/medium scale businesses, and engage in micro credit schemes.

The objectives of TORIL will also involve counseling and rehabilitation of war affected female and other activities as may be required by the laws of the Republic of Liberia.

In an interview with the Founder and Chairman of the organization, Victorial Marbey, resident in Virginia, USA, the organization was born against the backdrop that Liberians have suffered during the last 15 years of war and destruction.

Ms. Marbey said, "I left this country 1990 and traveled to the United States; I came back in '97, but when I saw that the country was still in war I was moved to do something for my country and people."

According to her, she is pleased with the security situation on the ground under UNMIL, saying, "you can be out as long as you want, no guns all over in the streets, and people seem to be happy."

She noted that there is a special program for the women; especially the war affected ones because she believes that the women have been affected mainly during the years of war.
Meanwhile, Ms. Marbey has called on politicians to think positive about the future of the country.

"Right now, the country needs all the sincere and honest people. We must now think of what we can do for the country rather than what the country can do for us," she noted.

She urged those aspiring for political offices to evaluate themselves and by any means if they realize that they are not competent, honest, sincere and dedicated, they should give way to reduce the number of aspirants.
