Gender Ministry Launches Awareness Campaign

September 27, 2005 - (The Analyst) The Ministry of Gender and Development, along with several women organizations and its Partners within the United Nations system will on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 launch a major awareness campaign. The awareness is aimed at ensuring a huge turnout of women voters during polling on October 11, 2005.

The campaign code-named "Wake Up Early To Vote", according to Gender Ministry release is the second andfinal phase of an earlier scheme carried out from May 4-21, 2005 during the Voter Registration exercise.
It can be recalled that before that exercise, the National Elections Commission (NEC) had reported a disappointingly low turnout of eligible women voters to register for the October elections, which are now just fifteen days away.

After the exercise, however, the NEC reported a sharp increase in the number of women registered. The Commission has since reported a slightly higher turnout of women than men.

Campaign-Wake-up-Early-to-Vote, the release said is an exercise designed to remind women voters about the significance of their total participation during polling on October 11, 2005.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender and Development is inviting all women organizations, CBOs, women, women leaders and youths of Liberia to join this awareness exercise.

The Ministry is once more cautioning women voters against underestimating their participation and decision, as the future of their children and country hinges on the outcome of the October elections. The launching will take place at 3:00 p.m at the Ministry of Gender and Development.

It is time for the women and youth of this country to consolidate their efforts and energies to save LIBERIA from the hands of its enemies.
