Sept 5, 2005 – (Kathmandu Post) Nine Nepali women, representing Nepal's selection in the list of 1,000 women nominees worldwide, for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005, were felicitated amidst a function organized by TEWA, a Nepali philanthropic organization, and UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in Lalitpur on Sunday. Among those honored were Sahana Pradhan, senior leader of CPN-UML; Rita Thapa, founder member of Nagarik Awaz; and Indira Shrestha, founder and chief executive of Shtri Shakti. Similarly, Chhing Lamu Sherpa, district program coordinator of Plan Nepal; Binda Pandey, a union activist; Stella Tamang, an educationist; Jhamak Ghimire, a columnist; Anju Chettri, journalist; and Jagan Sub Gurung of Women Education and Women Rights were also felicitated at the function.

Sharing the mission of the 1,000 Women for Nobel Peace Prize, Kamala Bhasin, South Asian Coordinator for the nomination process, said, "We believe that absence of war alone can never be peace. Instead, comprehensive human security alone is peace."
