RESIST INTIMIDATION, WOMEN POLITICIANS
TOLD
December 2, 2003 - (Daily Trust - Abuja) The National
Women Leader of the PDP, Mrs Josephine Anenih, has urged women politicians
to resist intimidation and face political challenges squarely.
Anenih told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), at the weekend in
Amawbia, near Awka State, that name dropping, blackmail, harassment
and intimidation have become serious impediments to the active participation
of women in politics.
Nigerian women need to bravely stand their ground and resist intimidation
by men, she stressed.
According to Anenih, "what women are currently passing through
is the price for a better tomorrow.
"By then there would be mutual understanding with the male
politicians who are now working to relegate women to the background."
Anenih cited her recent brush with the South-East PDP Vice-President,
Chief Ozichukwu Chukwu, saying, "I refuse to be intimidated;
some other daughters of Anambra and I have decided to say enough
is enough.
"Nobody can stop our peace moves; we have agreed
to talk to our brothers and not to allow politics to destroy us
or cause ill-feelings.
"The God I serve will soon answer our prayers and put those
feeding fat from political crisis in the state," Anenih added.
