NORTHERN IRELAND WOMEN'S COALITION
HOLD PARTY CONFERENCE
June 19, 2004 - (Northern Ireland Women's Coalition)
The N.I. Womens Coalition held their annual conference in
June at Manor House, Cultra. It proved to be very successful and
forward looking after the disappointments of the previous few months.
The main focus of the morning session was their response to the
request by Secretary of State for ideas around a truth & reconciliation
process in N.Ireland.
Monica McWilliams said, "Our guest speakers gave us plenty
to reflect on and we were urged by Marie Smyth to ensure that our
voice is heard in the consultation process".
With this in mind, N.I. Womens Coalition intend to write to
Paul Murphy stressing the need for all who have something to say
and ideas to put forward on this subject, to be given an opportunity
to do so.
We are currently putting together our ideas for the vital
process of remembering the past and moving forward. We urge the
Secretary of State to hold off from making any decision on this
key issue until all those with a role to play have put forward their
ideas, said Monica recently.
