Govt to make necessary amendments in Women related laws: PM
July 28, 2006 (Pakistan Tribune) Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has
said that government will make necessary amendments in laws related
to women to ensure justice and security for women and to make these
laws more in consonance with the teachings of Holy Quran and Sunnah.
Talking to a delegation of women parliamentarians belonging to Pakistan
Muslim League (PML) and the coalition parties, the Prime Minister
said that government will bring protection of women’s rights
laws to provide quick and inexpensive justice to women and to enable
them to play their due role in the society.
Pakistan Muslim League President Ch. Shujaat Hussain, PML Secretary
General Mushahid Hussain Syed, Ministers, Senators and member of
National Assembly attended the meeting. The Prime Minister said
that government is committed to the economic, political and social
empowerment of women as no country can progress without leveraging
the true potential of women. He said the present government has
taken historic steps for the empowerment of women.
The setting up of National commission on women, the increase in
quota for women in Central Superior Services (CSS), legal amendment
to release the women imprisoned in minor crimes, declaring honor
killing as murder, reservation of seats for women in local government
institutions, provincial assemblies and parliament will ensure,
for women a status unprecedented in the country’s history.
The Prime Minister said that the presence of women at the administrative
posts has been increased and they have been provided the micro finance
facility for their economic empowerment. The Prime Minister said
that the presence of 28000 women councilors has given political
empowerment and share to women in decision-making process at the
grass root level. With the inclusion of reserved seats for women
in parliament, Pakistan has more women parliamentarians than many
other countries of the world.
"Never before, elected women have been part of the political
process and decision making in such a large number", the Prime
Minister said. The Prime Minister said that today women are working
in every sphere of life alongwith men. We have a female governor
of State Bank of Pakistan; women are working as pilots in Pakistan
Air Force (PAF) and PIA.
The Prime Minister said that government is committed to empower
the women while staying within the parameters defined by our religion,
culture, values, traditions and values. President Ch. Shujaat Hussain,
Pakistan Muslim League (PML) said PML is working to safeguard the
rights of women and to provide them security and justice in light
with the teachings of Holy Quran and Sunnah.
The women parliamentarians commended and congratulated the government
for showing the political will to protect the lights of women and
to ensure a dignified place for them in the society. They commended
President General Pervez Musharraf for taking historic steps to
safeguard the rights of women and to ensure for them a signified
status in the society.
