PGMA a powerful woman leader, says Forbes
By: Jessie R. Valdez

September 4, 2006 - (PIA Press Release) President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has boost our international prestige and every Filipino should be proud of as she was named by Forbes Magazine as one of the world’s “100 Most Powerful Women”, ranking her as 45th ahead of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth who was number 46 and Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar who was number 47.

With this recognition and distinction given to Madam PGMA, majority of the Filipinos beam with pride and honor. This is a solid proof that PGMA is a strong and a good leader who works so hard to make this nation move forward for an economic leap and rise above poverty and enjoy the gains of progress. Strong enough that the President has survived alleged coup plots, 2 impeachment moves, and unending criticisms including natural disasters.

In another development, PGMA was also named just recently as vice chairman of Cuba meet to be held on September 11-16 in Havana. UN Ambassador Lauro Baja, Jr., confirmed that the Philippines was unanimously endorsed by the 118 member countries of Coordinating Bureau of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) during their meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York over the weekend. As vice chairman of the summit, Pres. Arroyo will help steer the conference to ensure its successful conclusion and also help guide the direction of the discussions that leads to a revitalized Non-Aligned Movement.

It may be recalled that sometime September of last year, ( 2005 ) PGMA received again another recognition as the 1st Woman President, 1st Asian leader and 1st Philippine President to address and preside over a United nations Security Council (UNSC), the most powerful world body organization meeting held in New York.

With all of these , they say that “no one can put a nation down, even the one governing it if there’s determination, strong enough to direct the nation towards economic progress and stability. We Filipinos therefore, should recognize PGMA as the legitimate Philippine President and give her the due respect as we unite and support the government for a stronger nation.
