Women in the Northern Cape
By Edwin Tshivhidzo
August 1, 2005 (BuaNews)
Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is expected to give a keynote
address at the provincial launch of the South African Women In Dialogue
(SAWID) in Kimberley, Northern Cape tomorrow.
SAWID is a non-profit organization initiated by First Lady, Zanele
Mbeki.
The project's main objective is to provide a platform for ongoing
dialogue among South African women to establish a common agenda
for the development of women, and seek to strengthen PAN African
women partnerships in conflict resolution and management of peace
and stability.
According to Northern Cape Premier's spokesperson Zodwa Thebeyapelo,
SAWID will assist in seeking solutions to some of the many challenges
that women are facing.
Programmes and projects that will fall under the spotlight at the
launch include those on poverty, HIV and AIDS.
The launch will also provide a platform for women in business across
the Districts and Municipalities.
Premier Dipuo Peters who is the Northern Cape Patron of SAWID has
extended an invitation to women in the province to participate in
the launch.
More than 600 delegates from different sectors such as mining, agriculture,
professionals, political parties, religious organisations and many
other sectors are expected to participate in the launch.
