GALA DINNER FOR MEN TO TALK ABOUT
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
By Zibonele Ntuli
December 8, 2003 (BuaNews - Pretoria) The
Mpumalanga Department of Safety and Security will host a gala evening
in Secunda tomorrow to raise awareness about domestic violence.
The department's spokesperson Ntime Skosana said the event formed
part of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children
campaign that aimed to end abuse and violence against women and
children.
"The central purpose is to generate increased awareness about
violence directed at women and children, how it manifests itself
in our society and the negative impact it has on the development
of these vulnerable groups," said Mr Skosana.
He said the gala evening would have a special emphasis on the role
that men could play in protecting the "vulnerable and the infirm"
in communities.
"More importantly this occasion also forms part of the moral
regeneration movement that also aims to bring about a new set of
moral values in our communities," he said.
Reverend.Mapula Mtintso of the Hlayiseka Institute and Mr Mbuyiselo
Botha, the founder of South Africa Men's Forum, would make presentations
on the night while Safety and Security MEC Thabang Makwetla will
deliver the keynote address.
