WOMEN ABUSE IS AGAINST CONSTITUTION
By Edwin Tshivhidzo, Pretoria

November 23, 2003 – (BuaNews - Pretoria) Correctional Services Minister Ben Skosana says all violence against women and children is against their Constitutional rights and tramples on people's dignity.

The minister was speaking in support of the 16 days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children during a Gala dinner on Friday.
The 16 days of activism campaign starts on November 25 and ends on December 10 to educate communities about the effects of violence against women and children.

"Commitment to combat violence and related forms of abuse directed at women and children, continues to be a priority of our government," said minister Skosana.

"A collective response from Non Governmental Organisations, business, the religious community and organised labour is needed in finding a solution," said the minister.

Deputy President Jacob Zuma is expected to speak at the official launch of the campaign in Kimberly in the Northern Cape on Tuesday.
