'WATER CONDEMNS WOMEN TO POVERTY'
By Abubaker Mukose, Kampala
December 10, 2003 (New Vision - Kampala)
WOMEN'S traditional role as water collectors has confined them to
perpetual poverty, the head of the water sector liaison division,
Richard Cong, has said.
"This trend has over burdened and robbed them of time for economic
production hence remaining in poverty," Cong said.
He was closing a workshop for senior officers and water scientists
at Jinja Nile Resort hotel recently.
He said much as there was need for all development activities to
incorporate gender concerns, equal representation of men and women
within
institutions and at the grassroots level was still lacking.
