WOMEN FOR GENDER ROADMAP
by Jane Nafula

July 28, 2004 - (The Monitor) Ms ZamZam Nagujja has appealed to women activists to lobby government to include women issues in the political road map. Nagujja is the deputy Director of legal Affairs at the Movement Secretariat.

"As women we have to intensify lobbying and advocating so that what we want can be articulated in the transition process," she said. Nagujja was discussing a paper presented by the coordinator of Uganda Women's Network, Jackie Asiimwe, at a meeting organised by Isis-WICCE and UWONET at Hotel equatorial, Wednesday.

She said that it was imperative to ensure that issues like implementation of the Domestic Relation's Bill [DRB] and solving the Northern war are taken care of in the said process because it is women who suffer most when 'things backslidumane.'

Asiimwe also complained that road map process was devoid of women's issues. She urged women to monitor the delivery of civic education to ensure that it is non-partisan and that it disseminates correct information - to help women, right from the grassroots, make correct choices.

ISIS-WICCE Associate Director, Jessica Nkuhe advised women to continue struggling for their rights.
