Law Must Protect Women,
Children From Violence
By Bulawayo Bureau
December 11, 2005 - (The Herald News)
- The law should protect women and children from gender-related
violence as cases of such nature are rising everyday, High Court
Judge, Justice Nicholas Ndou, has said.
Officially launching a publication, "Women's Access to Justice"
and a campaign to improve the victim friendly courts at a workshop
in Bulawayo last Friday, Justice Ndou described gender violence
as a crisis, which the law should play a pivotal role in minimising.
The workshop was organised by Zimbabwe Woman Lawyers Association
(ZWLA). The publication published by the ZWLA is meant to educate
society about women's rights and the importance of fighting gender
violence. The workshop was held under the theme " For the health
of woman, for the health of the world. No more violence". "Violence
against women is no longer a domestic or private affair, so the
law has a duty to offer women protection," said Justice Ndou.
He said the Government had joined hands with other governments all
over the world in protecting women's rights.or private affair, so
the law has a duty to offer women protection," said Justice
Ndou.
