WOZA Statement

May 29, 2005 - (WOZA) Three WOZA women arrested yesterday remain missing until 3 pm today when they were located at Queens Park police station, they are unharmed. They were last seen at 3:15 pm on 28 May, in the company of law and order officers being driven into the bush outside Bulawayo.

A Police officer who refused to be named confirmed that they were arrested under the notorious Public Order Security Act (POSA) and told us that the ZRP Detention Book reflects, "Released - To proceed by way of summons".

The Lawyer has visited them and is due to find out their fate Monday morning to see if they will be taken to court or released as it had been indicated in the detention book.

Meanwhile the Lawyer has been ordered to bring Jennifer Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu into custody tomorrow. They are apparently wanted in connection with the Saturday’s activity and other charges and an arrest warrant has apparently been issued and officers have indicated that they will deny bail.

The duo, prominent activists, are not on remand for any charges so lawyers are attempting to determine exact charges that will be proffered against the two should they willingly hand themselves in.

For more information, please email: wozazimbabwe@yahoo.com (for security reasons, WOZA will filter through written correspondence)
