Overview
UN Secretary-General Ban-ki Moon has referred to the Global Open Day for Women and Peace an opportunity to "reinvigorate our efforts to realize the vision set out in resolution 1325."
Since June 7 seventeen post-conflict countries worldwide have held their Open Day for Peace, with others presently holding preparatory meetings.
These events engaged women peace activists, leaders and advocates with senior UN officials to allow them to voice their concerns and discuss how women's participation in sustainable conflict resolution, peacemaking and peacebuilding can be improved.
Recommendations from the meetings were forwarded to the UN Secretary Council for it to consider in accelerating the resolution's implementation.
