Formerly located within Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), DAW was an advocate for women’s equality and gender mainstreaming movements with in the UN system, national governments and civil society. In addition DAW was the organization responsible for the substantive development of the Commission on the Status of Women and Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action [1]. DAW had a small operational capacity in NY.
