    SCR 1325 has played a critical role in heightening global awareness on the importance of gender perspectives in all areas of peace and security. As part of the UN's multilateral framework for the promotion of peace and women's rights, SCR 1325 complements other international and national instruments that give women and peace activists a wide range of tools to advance their work.

    The Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women is an expert body established in 1982 composed of 23 experts on women's issues from around the world.The Committee monitors national implementation of the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), also known as the International Women’s Bill of Rights. The Committee meets every year in at least two sessions of three weeks each.

    An invitation to discuss will discuss important ways in which two treaties‐‐ the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the
    Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of discrimination against Women (CEDAW) along with the UN Security Council resolution 1325 et al. can work to prevent discrimination and violence against women, particularly in conflict and post‐conflict situations.
