The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) was established per Security Council resolution 1925 on 28 May 2010 to formerly take over operations from the United Nations Organization Mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) beginning 1 July 2010. The mandate of MONUSCO is to protect civilians in imminent danger as well as support the development of Congolese institutions in areas including protection of civilians and stabilization and peace consolidation.
