The United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) was established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1320 (2000) on 15 September 2000. The mandate of the mission was to monitor the cessation of hostilities, the implementation of peace agreements, and coordinate its activities as needed with relevant humanitarian and human rights activities in the area. UNMEE operations were terminated on 31 July 2008 with the adoption of Security Council resolution 1827 (2008).
